“I’m one of the 20 italian regions, and in 1948 I’ve managed to obtain a special statute that gives me some autonomy. I’m in the middle of the Mediterranean Sea and I’m the second biggest island after Sicily.
Your geographic appearance is quite particular … it seems a sandal track?
“Yes, it’s true… actually, ancient people took from this fact the idea to give me my name … etymologically, I’m the footprint of a human foot!
These footprint looks rather mountainous …
“Right, but I do not have very high mountains! The highest peak reaches 1834 meters (Punta La Marmora) in the Massif of Gennargentu. But if you overlook me, you’ll see a big green plain in the south, the Campidano. The most of agricultural products come from there…
What do you produce?
“A lot of things … I’m famous for olives, olive oil, artichokes saffron, honey, wine and many other things. I could speak about this for hours …
I imagine…but you’re not mainly famous for agriculture, are you?
“oh, you know me well … actually I’m famous for livestock farming! As you know, on my territory, thousands of sheeps are bred and they produce every day a very special thing! I’m speaking about cheese, the "Pecorino Sardo". It’s our most typical product …
So let’s speak about your typical dishes …
“Yes, I expected such a question … It’s difficult to make a choice, we have a lot … when a tourist comes to Sardinia, he will certainly have on his table some Carasau bread, a dish of Malloreddus (Sardinian gnocchi), the roasted piglet and a glass of Cannonau wine and, last but not least, Sardinian biscuits or a Seadas and a glass of liqueur of Mirto.
So your tourists lack for nothing …
“For Sardinian people, the tourist is sacred, our welcome is more than a job! Anyone who comes here can’t be deceived. So I’m waiting for you, I have so much to tell you, this is only the beginning!
